Unbelievable ...
100m Butterfly
Phelps 50.58
Cavic 50.59
Medal seven was clearly the most dramatic!
50m Freestyle
Steffen 24.06
Torres 24.07
Huge cheering for the 41 year old Torres who gave it her best and came oh, so close!
Meanwhile, Bolt covered 100m on land in 9.69 and they say he can go faster if he improved his technique and didn't showboat the finish.
Hats off to the participants of gymnastics and diving. No question these individuals got an incredible blend of strength, skill and mental discipline.
But for me, the drama of athletic competition is about time clocks and scoring that doesn't involve judges.
UPDATE: Chris Chase of Yahoo! Sports "Fourth-Place Medal" sort of agrees with the idea that there is subjectivity in judging though he uses it to show that the gap between China and the USA isn't so great in the medal standings. My only point is that as a sports viewer, I prefer sports without judge scoring. As for the issue of who is dominating the games, there is no getting around the fact that when you can recruit from 1.3 billion people, you are bound to find great athletes to be able to compete in many areas.
Rambling about soccer: LA Galaxy, IF Elfsborg, Falkenbergs FF, Liverpool FC, Queens Park Rangers, and LAFC. Also random rambling about Star Trek, LA sports (Dodgers, UCLA, Kings, Lakers, Rams), politics (centrist), faith (Christian), and life. Send comments to rrblog[at]yahoo[dot]com.
