I don't like the map too much. They forget that empires also expanded in stages, and that it was not steady expansion outward from a central point (which leads one to forget that these things are not entirely planned. The crusader and the Israel expansions were done better, but the Byzantines and Persians and Macedonians should have been done in stages instead of an expanding circle (and the others should have also. It would have communicated a lot more meaning.)
