Life: A friend is off to Afghanistan ...
... and has started a blog to share the experience. Don't know how often he will get to post but will be checking back now and then to see what is happening and will excerpt over on this blog.

Dear Rene, I will say a prayer that your friend returns safely. I know he has good intentions and I hope the conditions are ripe for him to carry them out. Did you read anything about the new book, "The Kabul Beauty"? It is an odd story about a woman from Michigan (I believe?) who takes her hair dressing skills and frolicking character to Kabul to teach the local woman how to run a hair salon. Apparently, she has had lots of success and thus the book. I sent the book review to my cousin in Lesetho thinking the idea may also be successful there!? Love, Michele
